Youth

The youth band lead worship on Youth Sunday
Tokyo Union Church has an active and diverse youth ministry program for Middle School (grades 6-8) and Senior High School (grades 9-12) students.
While the foundation of our program is Youth Sunday School, there are a variety of meetings and special events held throughout the year.

Youth Sunday School

9:45-10:45 a.m. (September-June)
Middle School: 4th floor Youth Room
Senior High School: 4th floor meeting room

The Youth Sunday School program meets on Sunday mornings from 9:45-10:45 a.m. (September-June). The Middle School class meets in the fourth floor Youth Room. Using active learning techniques, the Middle School’s Akaloo™ curriculum infuses the Biblical story with meaning and purpose in young Christians’ lives. The Senior High School class meets in the fourth floor meeting room. Their Thoughtful Christian™ curriculum alternates between theological, spiritual, and everyday questions to explore the meaning of Christ-centered living.

Confirmation Class

In the spring, TUC offers a Confirmation Class for youth. This is a meaningful time of learning, dialogue and reflection on the doctrines of Christianity that may end by the students choosing to confirm their faith before the congregation. In general, confirmation class is focused on students currently in 8th and 9th grades, but talk to the youth leaders or pastors if you are interested in being confirmed.

Youth Group

Youth Group provides an opportunity for youth to integrate lessons from Sunday School with real life experiences. Middle School and Senior High youth groups normally meet separately, usually on Saturday evenings or on Sundays from 12:30-2 p.m. Through service projects, worship leading and fellowship events, youth are able to explore their faith “hands-on” in a supportive, Christ-centered community.

Retreats and Mission Trips

Enjoying some Cambodian food in Phnom Penh
Middle Schoolers and High Schoolers will go on a ski trip this February 8-10, 2013!  If you would like to attend, please fill in the following form:

In addition, the Senior High students take an annual Mission Trip for one week. This year's Mission Trip will be from June 8 to June 15, 2013. Through such intensive time together, the youth and adult helpers get a chance to develop stronger relationships among each other while serving people in need. Most recently the Sr. High group served in Cambodia (pictured right). Previous years have also seen trips to the Philippines and Thailand.

By encouraging the development of spiritual gifts through study and fellowship, the aim of TUC’s Youth Ministry Program is to equip young Christian leaders for today. Timothy once wrote:
“Don’t let anyone look down on you because you are young, but set an example for the believers in Speech, in Life, in Love, in Faith and in Purity” (1 Timothy 4:12).

TUC’s Youth Ministry Program strives to make God’s call real in the lives of Middle School and Senior High School students, and to provide a safe harbor for struggle, learning, nourishment and rest on their faith journey.

If you have any questions about the Youth Ministry programs, feel free to contact Tiffani Anderson (Middle School and High School Youth Ministry Director).
