Answers to Hard Questions
Every fourth Sunday of the month, 9:45-10:45 am
Facilitator: Brad Schmidt
We tackle the hard questions that come to mind as we read the Bible or face issues in our everyday lives. - If God is all-powerful and good, why is there so much evil in this world? How can we know there actually is a God?
Please bring your questions (or those of your child or friend), and we can discuss them based on scripture and philosophical truths.

Psalms Group
Monday’s at 7 pm and/or Friday’s at 10 am
Facilitator: Rich Gardner
The Psalms Group has currently taken up the Gospel of Mark. This is not Bible study in the conventional sense. We will, rather, be following an adapted version of St. Ignatius’ Spiritual Exercises to guide us in our reading and prayer. The process, simply put, involves imaginatively engaging with the text through what is termed “an application of the senses.”

Mindfulness
Wednesdays at 7 pm and/or Saturday’s at 10 am
Facilitator: Rich Gardner
Rich Gardner (a Certified Mindfulness Meditation Instructor) is inviting interested TUC members, as some already have, to join in an ongoing mindfulness group. While some Christians have adopted mindfulness as a form of Christian meditation, this group is best characterized, akin to Jon Kabat-Zinn’s work, as a form of stress reduction. It should also be noted that this group is interfaith in orientation, meaning it is open to all.

Lectio Divina
Thursday morning at 8:00 am and/or Tuesday evenings at 8:00 pm
Facilitator: Lydia Tembo, Peter Mathies
Lectio Divina, meaning “divine reading,” is a contemplative practice in which we gather to engage with Scripture in a prayerful manner. It typically unfolds in four steps: reading, meditation, prayer, and contemplation. A passage is read aloud multiple times, with silent reflection between each reading. Participants listen for a word or phrase that resonates with them, share their insights, and reflect on how God might be speaking to them personally and communally.
Rather than analyzing the text intellectually, the focus is on experiencing God's presence and allowing the Word to shape one's heart and life. It’s a gentle, sacred rhythm that fosters spiritual intimacy and communal discernment.

Prayer Chain
Coordinator: Becky Agatsuma
Members of the Prayer Chain pray for requests that are received via email, primarily through the “Need Prayer?” Request Form available on TUC’s Website Homepage. We pray for individuals, the church, and global issues. Emergency prayer requests are sent out promptly. Increasingly, we have been receiving prayer requests from outside of Japan.

Relating to People of Other Religions
Every second Sunday of the month, 9:45-10:45 am
Facilitator: David Ahern
How do we, as Christians, faithfully and compassionately engage with people of other faiths? This study invites us into that vital question through Thomas Thangaraj’s warm and accessible reflections. Drawing from personal stories, biblical insights, and practical wisdom, the book challenges us to deepen our own faith while building bridges of understanding. It’s not about theological debate - it’s about spiritual hospitality, for those seeking to grow in grace, empathy, and global awareness.
-
Men's Breakfast
Facilitator: Peter Mathies
The Men’s Breakfast group meets on the second and fourth Saturday of the month at 8:30 am. It is an opportunity to get to know other members of the church and spend time in good conversation and fellowship. We are now back in person and meet in the Fellowship Hall.
